Hello Anime Gamers! It has been sometime since I’ve sat down to tell you about a crowdfunding campaign, but recently one has come to our attention that I believe many in the anime gaming community will appreciate. It is understandable if you are wary of Kickstarter campaigns at this point, but the studio working on this one seems to genuinely be invested in their game. If you’re interested in bullet hell games with cute characters (Touhou fans?) then allow me to introduce you to…
Celestial Crusaders is a horizontal 2D bullet hell game that will challenge your reflexes and hand eye coordination. The art style is reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game which I enjoyed immensely. There will be 6 playable characters (with one “secret character”), and two game modes to play through. Arcade mode will be the standard story mode, where Endless mode will give the player one life to get the highest score possible. The story synopsis is as follows:
The dark wizard Nosferatu has unleashed his Nightmare Forces onto the world. Utilizing his evil powers, he seeks to cover the Earth in never ending darkness. Just when all hope seems lost, six mighty warriors from the stars arrive to defend the Earth in its hour of need. These brave little warriors are known as the Celestial Crusaders, and together: Luna, Puffy, Spooky, Breezy, Sparky, and Ash will take on the evil wizard and his followers in a battle that will determine the fate of the world.
This bullet hell mixes its high level of difficulty with some fairly tongue-in-cheek humor that eases the frustration that is often felt in games of this genre. Spearheading this humor are voice actresses who are no strangers to the anime community. If you’re a fan of anime dubs you’ll love this line-up, and it’s incredible that this studio was able to get these actresses for their game. The voice actresses and the characters they portray in game are as follows:
Luna (Voiced by: Skyler Davenport)
Character Bio: A girl with a kind heart and a passionate soul. Luna’s drive to rid the world of evil shines like a mighty star! Even when facing seemingly impossible odds she never gives up, and acts as a beacon of hope to her fellow Crusaders. Nosferatu had better beware because there’s no darkness too thick that Luna’s light cannot pierce!
Seiyuu Bio: Skyler. has been working in voice over for a few years. her goal in life is to bring the greatest amount of joy and laughter to the largest number of human beings possible. She enjoys fantasy films, playing the Erhu, and snuggling with her fuzzy, four-legged soulmate, Kaito (a shih-tzu mix). She has a massively gigantic geode collection, and loves boba tea.
Notable Roles: Karen Jinryo in Shomin Sample, Haruko Bando in Cheer Boys!!, Tamaki in Luck & Logic, Valkali/Blood Jarl Kali in Smite, Nikki in HuniePop.
Puffy (Voiced by: Michelle Marie)
Character Bio: This girl’s got a super bubbly personality and absolutely adores her fellow Crusaders and the bond they share. She’s completely obsessed with giving hugs. In fact, Puffy loves giving hugs so much that she’ll even offer them to enemies if they’re willing to change their evil ways. Unfortunately for Puffy this never works.
Seiyuu Bio: Michelle Marie is a bilingual professional voice actress, vocalist, and lyricist. She has been voice acting since she was 14, but decided to pursue the field professionally in 2016.
Notable Roles: Emmalyn and Hailey in Aphmau, Mimi in The Pirate Mermaid, Saejima Rui in Bloody Chronicles, Kali in The Seven Districts of Sin, and most recently, Niffty in Hazbin Hotel. When she was younger, Michelle started making Japanese covers of anime songs on Youtube under the alias “Amree” and currently has over 20,000 subscribers. She is perhaps most well known as “The Tsundere” in the original duet “It’s not like I like you,” a song that has since reached over 9 million views.
Spooky (Voiced by: Jeannie Tirado)
Character Bio: Baddies beware because you’re in for a scare! Spooky is a girl that you definitely don’t want to mess with, unless you want her to turn you into a pumpkin! She tends to be very quiet and comes off as being shy. In fact her fellow Crusaders are the only ones she really feels comfortable around. She enjoys reading, creating new hexes, and above all else, making enemies scream in pure terror. Yikes!
Seiyuu Bio: Jeannie Tirado was born and raised in Orlando, FL, and got her start through music. After getting a degree in voice, she moved to Dallas to focus on voice work, musical and non-musical! Breezy (Voiced by: Kristen McGuire)
Character Bio: Always cool, calm, and collected, Breezy is definitely one laid back Crusader. Breezy is always there to chill out her fellow Crusaders when emotions run high, like she’s some sort of relaxation guru. You don’t have to worry about Breezy losing her cool in battle because it’s pretty hard to do that when you’re more chill than an iceberg.
Seiyuu Bio: Kristen McGuire is a voice actress, script adapter and ADR Director for Funimation Studios in Dallas, TX. She began her career as a voice actor by providing background voices in 2013, and landed her first major role as Hinano Kurahashi in Assassination Classroom in 2015. She has directed the English dubs for Gamers! and Citrus, and adapted a variety of titles for Funimation as well, including popular hits like Love Live! Sunshine! and Interviews With Monster Girls.
Sparky (Voiced by: Dawn M. Bennett)
Character Bio: Sparky’s a girl with no shortage of self-confidence. She’s got the speed and the skills to put a shock to the system of any baddie! Sparky loves the spirit of competition, and she’ll often try and make bets with her fellow Crusaders on who can blast the most enemies. Sparky might come off as being a bit too full of herself, but she’s always dependable, and she’ll fight to the end to protect her friends!
Seiyuu Bio: Dawn M. Bennett is a Dallas-based voice actress that has worked with FUNimation, Rooster Teeth, ScrewAttack, and GalaxyTrail. She began voice acting during her freshman year at Berklee College of Music, where she graduated as a songwriting major in 2014. Ash (Voiced by: Sheila M. Lin)
Character Bio: A fierce girl with an extremely short fuse, Ash’s temper is more deadly than an erupting volcano! Ash might be a massive hothead, but that doesn’t stop her from caring very deeply for her fellow Crusaders. The forces of evil had better beware because Ash’s furious flames will reduce them all to, well… Ash!
Seiyuu Bio: Sheila M. Lin is an actress, improv performer/ teacher, voice talent, and advocate for creativity. Her enthusiastic outlook has earned her multiple performing opportunities in Shakespeare theater, voice acting, and improv. On her days off, Sheila spends her time watching cartoons/ anime, reading, and making VA collages.
